Central pointing devices - why are they so efficient?
Both hands in front of the body
The most important and underlying principle behind the design of RollerMouse products is that both hands are kept in front of the body. This is the most relaxed position because it is here that you use fewest muscles, tense up the least and are thus most relaxed.
- No awkward twisting movements
In other words, you avoid the awkward position whereby the arm is twisted to the side to grasp the traditional mouse. If you think about it, there are not many other daily situations where the arms or hands are kept in such an awkward position in order to carry out a simple function.
- Far fewer unnecessary movements
In addition to twisting, you save the body from having to make an endless number of movements every time you have to move your arm to the side.
Small muscles are designed for small movements and large muscles for big ones – and not vice versa
When you use RollerMouse products, cursor control and click functions are carried out using the fingers. Moving the cursor and clicking are both movements so small that we use fine motor control. With the traditional mouse, the body is forced into inappropriate use of large muscle groups (neck, shoulders and arms) to carry out micro movements.
Use both hands = alternation and variation
Varying your working position during the day is one of the best ways to avoid discomfort and pain, and with cursor control housed in the roller bar, it is suddenly possible to use the opposite hand (typically the left hand) to operate the mouse. This feels less strange than training your body to use the left hand to operate a standard mouse device.
Separate cursor control and clicking
Another option is to operate the cursor (the roller bar) with one hand while you allow the other hand to operate the buttons. This also saves the body from placing unnecessary strain on muscles and provides far greater precision as well.
Relaxed hands – no more strained gripping of the mouse
A standard mouse is often too small for the user's hand. This often results in too tight a grip on the mouse and consequently undesirable forearm tension.
Double click using a single movement
One of the most harmful movements for the hand, wrist and forearm is double clicking. This is why RollerMouse comes with a double click button. This simple function alone saves the body from making thousands of unnecessary and harmful micro movements each day.
